Lonavala International Film Festival India (LIFFI) was started in the year 2016. The first edition of LIFFI was attended by luminaries in the film industry like Mr. Shyam Benegal, Mr. Naseeruddin Shah, Mr. Ketan Mehta, Mr. Govind Nihalani, Mr. Sudhir Mishra, to name a few. Several well-acclaimed films like Pyaasa, Tamas, Ardh Satya, Drohkaal, apart from commendable short films and documentaries were showcased at the event. Awards were given out to prominent filmmakers and interactive Q&A sessions were conducted on various aspects of cinema. The attendance and response to the first edition was overwhelming with several visitors coming from all over India to watch path breaking films in the scenic hill station of Lonavala.
Continuing with the tradition, LIFFI 2017 was a grand hit. Over 30 films across various genres were shown, all of which perfectly fitted the theme “An Entertaining Family Weekend “. Well-known entertaining films like “I am Kalam”, Andaz Apna Apna, Jalpari – The Desert Mermaid, Hum Aapke Hain Koun etc. were screened. Mr. Mukesh Khanna, (who played the role of Shaktimaan) the then Chairman of the Children’s Film Society, India was the Chief Guest. Many other esteemed film personalities including Mr. Kawaljeet Singh, Mr. Viveck Vaswani etc. shared their valuable experiences.
LIFFI 2018 took us to greater heights. A tribute was paid to the ace director Mr. Bimal Roy for his unparalleled contribution to Indian Cinema. Six of his films including ‘Sujata, Bandini, Madhumati’ etc. were screened. His daughter Ms. Rinki Roy Bhattacharya was present and spoke about his work. Treasures from her personal collection were exhibited for the benefit of the audience. In addition, several films were screened in the presence of actors like Ms. Shabana Azmi, Mr. Prakash Oak, Mr. Ananth Mahadevan etc. Workshops and Q & A’s were conducted by film experts like Mr. Joy Sengupta, Mr. Anant Mahadevan and Mr. Tushar Bhatia.
LIFFI 2019 is all set to enthral film lovers from 13th to 15th September 2019 at ‘Triose Plaza, Lonavala once again! The highlight of the festival is a tribute to the Maestro Mr. Subhash Ghai. Seven of his super hit films including ‘Karz’, ‘Khalnayak’, ‘Saudagar’ etc. will be screened. About 19 films will be screened and several workshops / master classes / Q & A’s will be conducted. As these interactive seminars and master classes are designed to provide an enriching experience to film students and enthusiasts, media school students from Mumbai, Lonavala and Pune have been invited for this festival.
Located in the beautiful town of Lonavala, Triose Plaza started its operations in the year 2009 and added three cinema halls to its operations over time. Films at LIFFI will be screened in these cinema halls which have become popular for providing a good viewing experience.
